Dahlia:

symbolizing elegance, inner strength, creativity, change, and dignity; known to represent standing strong in one’s sacred values

After years of working together in the service industry, we (Alex, Nat, and Sarah) decided it was finally time to plant our own garden and fulfill our collective dream of becoming business owners. In 2022 we started as a pop-up concept, cooking our food out of a commissary kitchen in Robbinsdale and selling our food at local coffee shops, breweries, and restaurants in Minneapolis. Our goal is to have a cafe-style brick and mortar someday, but for now we are keeping things small.

We want to create not only a place to be, but a community built on the love and respect we share for one another and those who come into our lives. Dahlia will help you seize the opportunity of the day whether you need a fresh pastry to nourish your soul or simply an occasion to connect with others.

The Team

Right now we’re just a team of three, but we hope to expand someday when we have a brick-and-mortar space!

Alex Althoff

Pastry Chef, owner

She’s a pastry powerhouse, a creative force, the queen of donuts, a magnetic human, and our Pastry Chef. Alex has been dreaming of opening her own place since she inherited her love of whipped cream from her mom and learned how to bake her first chocolate cake from her dad. (Bless us, everyone.)

Alex taught herself how to make laminated pastries by hand in maybe the hottest kitchen in Minneapolis, and has over a decade of professional experience in the industry. She pulls inspiration from her Midwest upbringing and finds joy in making things her loved ones and collaborators would want to eat themselves.

Nat Moser

Chef, owner

Nat (otherwise known as Nate, Nathaniel, or sometimes just Moser) is our talented Chef and friend to everyone. Rarely can we go anywhere without this guy running into someone he knows, or at least knows him, and he is a major connector for our business. He’s a rock in a rushing river, always keeps his cool, and is an excellent teacher to those coming up in the industry.

As far as food is concerned, Nat is very knowledgeable in the land of fermentation, especially beer and hot sauce, and has been a connoisseur of peppers and all things spicy since he was a youngin’. He appreciates Midwestern comforts and Scandinavian traditions, has a special place in his belly for Spanish food, and tends to chose the “old man” option on the menu when he eats out.

Sarah Julson

Creative & Operations, owner

Sarah does a little bit of everything for Dahlia. She’s the oil in the machine and the connection between the pastries and the people. With a background in art and design she created the Dahlia branding from scratch, then used her decade of experience in marketing for restaurants to send it out into the world.

When Sarah isn’t busy making us all look good, she’s doing all the other behind-the-scenes work including accounting, running errands, and even prepping in the kitchen. She’s always there to support the chefs and push the business forward.
